Mark O'Brien

Mark brings a wealth of experience from across many genres of the performing arts, but as far as he is concerned Swing is "Where it's at!"

Mark O'Brien started dancing at the tender age of 10 and has been a member of Channel 7's Hi-Hello Show, the Qld BalletWB Movie World Entertainment Team and the Expo 88 Dance Troupe.

Mark has undergone intensive training with the Coastal Dance Theatre, the Moscow Circus in acrobatics and has taken these skills into various roles in Strictly Ballroom, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Street Fighter.

Mark discovered Swing in 1999 by accident. While attending a social dance at friend & mentors' Fred & Merilyn's Paradise Rockers, Mark spotted Shirley and Ben Boyd. Mark was instantly attracted by the intense style and charisma of Swing and has never looked back.

Since 1999 Mark has attended workshops all over the world including the UK, Germany, Canada and the original home of Swing, the USA. Since then he has been dancing up a storm in Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and northern NSW.

Mark & Amanda's passion for swing, the performing arts and enthusiasm for the rest of the world to join in, has driven them to establish Gotta Swing.

Mark and Jane teach Lindy Hop on the Gold Coast on Mondays.

Mark and Shirley teach Lindy Hop in Brisbane south side on Wednesdays.
