COVID-19 Update as at 10/07/2020

Hi friends and students

As many of you would be aware, Stage 3 restrictions are now in place in Qld as of 3rd July 2020. What does this mean? Gotta Swing is currently in the process of getting all our checklists and compliance in place at the moment. We are working together with our venues on all the required COVID-safe requirements and plan to restart classes in the very near future - watch this space!

Ausdance QLD has now revised their Qld Health approved Industry Plan, Dance and Physical Performing Arts (DPPA) in line with stage 3 requirements.

DANCE BUSINESSES AND ACTIVITIES WORKING WITH THE DPPA PLAN

Dance Business who are planning on working with the DPPA (this includes Gotta Swing) must adhere to the following guidelines:

Maximum Numbers Exemption

  • For venues (facilities) or rooms of up to 200 square meters, no more than one person per 2 square metres, up to a maximum of 50 people.

  • For venues (facilities) or rooms larger than 200 square metres, No more than one person per 4 square metres. Maximum capacity to be determined by individual room/area capacity assessment.

Contact Activities

  • Standard contact including partnering and group activities where the conditions of this DPPA Plan are applied.

DANCE BUSINESSES AND ACTIVITIES WORKING WITHOUT THE DPPA PLAN

Dance Businesses in our industry may chose not to operate under the DPPA however this means they must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • have a maximum of 50 people, with no more than one person per 4 square metres and physical distancing observed (no contact is permitted).

  • comply with the conditions under QLD Health Restrictions on Businesses, Activities and Undertakings Direction.

COVID-19 Update as at 23/03/20

Good morning to all our students and friends.

If you have not already heard last night you will be waking up to the news that the government has introduced fairly drastic new health and safety measures to try and slow the spread of COVID-19. They have announced the closure of all licenced pubs, clubs, bars, cinemas, theatres, gyms, indoor sports venues & places of worship as at midday today. As a result all Gotta Swing classes and events are now cancelled until further notice.

Stay safe and practice social distancing as best you can. We’ll see you again on the other side!

What is Swing Dancing?

Swing Dancing is a style of dancing that developed with Swing style Jazz music in the United States of America during the 1920s and '30s. There are several different types of Swing Dancing, including; Charleston, Lindy Hop, Balboa and Shag.

Swing Dancing underwent a revival in the 90s, and has grown in popularity ever since.

This is a short clip about the Swing Revival in Europe, featuring an interview with Frankie Manning, one of the original masters of Swing Dancing from the 30s.

Some swing dancing can be slow and relaxed, where as other styles can be energetic with couples kicking their legs and leaping into the air. The only requirement for Swing Dancing is to put your tongue into your cheek and to have fun.
